Alert | Many believe it is a snickers for desert, or the same ol' smores and I say enough. There is more to the camping experience in the from the the great day ender than a damn snickers bar or the tooth jaring smores...I am for one guilty of not planning for but ever grateful to those that plan ahead for the last great delight of the day desert....
Now I have heard of but never experienced ice cream on the trail, that with brownies, cobbler and pie I find my self drooling for such. Does any one have fav's or ideas in this area and to make it interesting make for a group of at least five...
Oh do tell please... | | | |

Alert | | Steven, check out this link: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/ics5/. I attended this event and had Aaron's freshly churned ice cream on the trail. There is just something so out of this world about eating ice cream in the middle of the desert about a hundred miles from the nearest grocery store. | | WZ7V

Alert | Cobbler and Ice Cream ----------------------- Britt and Jeremy made us some Peach Cobbler on one of our Quilomene trips. It didn't turn out how they wanted it to, but man it was still awesome!
Fresh Ice Cream w/ chocolate blackberry topping ----------------------------------------------- My family has two of those REI Ice Cream balls and we like to keep the kids busy making our ice cream while we make dinner (good way to make frozen Margaritas too btw). Fresh ice cream topped with a chocolate blackberry puree and whole fresh blackberries is one of my favorites. :)
Simple: Fresh strawberries or fresh chocolate dipped strawberries ------------------------------------------------------------------- On the 4x4 trail I sometimes (usually) like to keep things simple. In summer, I almost always bring along a tub of strawberries. Makes a great lunch dessert too. If I'm feeling gourmet, but want to keep it simple, I also pick up those strawberry chocolate dipper packages they have sitting next to the berries in the store. Chocolate dipped strawberries, or chocolate dipped blackberries are one of my favorites.
Simple variation on a classic: Peanut Butter Cup S'mores --------------------------------------------------------- A yummy variation on the classic S'more is to use Reese's Peanut Butter cups (or Dove Milk Chocolate) instead of the Hershey's bar. (Sorry about the dirty fingers.)

Alert | I remember the adults making 'fist brownies' by basically just spreading out brownie mix in a pan and leaving it in the back window of their cars for the whole day while we'd all explore the beach or fish. There was always excitement as we headed back to the cars wondering how they turned out. Some days they were really gooey and others just like baked brownies. Our friends VW bug always made them the best. Just something about ending a trip with warm, chocolaty goodness to punctuate the memories. | | Traded in all my project vehicles for my 2009 Xterra, not an ounce of buyers remorse.

Alert | A desert that most have forgot that is also good for breakfast...
Peaches and Cream....
before leaving the house, halve and core freash peaches, drizzle a little lemon juice to keep, chill in plastic bag.
Buy some whole cream and keep cold in cooler...
simply put peaches in bowl, add cream and see the smiles....for a bonus add granola for crunch.

Alert | | You guys are awesome! I think this year I may actually be able to buy real food when I go on an expedition. In the past I have splurged and brought a beer for each evening and real metal sticks to roast whatever meat I bring along. | | RBBailey Images Rovers

That dessert in the desert sounds good. Much better than desert in the dessert. | | My Overland Adventure Blog

Alert | | I was wondering when someone would chomp on that. I remember Ms. Lindstrom, my hot 3rd grade teacher, explaining to the class that "dessert" has more S's because you always want more of it. Now I get confused because I don't often eat dessert, but long for more desert. Dang her!
