Purchased from REI this week-

Campground Cookery by Brenda K. Kulibert. Has some great techniques and great recipes, but one thing caught my eye in the book that made me buy it. Cooking with a "reflector oven". Maybe some of you have used this, but I honestly never have. Simple little handmade device from sticks and aluminum foil. Looks pretty cool and I am going to try it out here at the house to see how it works. If it works well I will write up a review.

If any of you have variations in design or great recipes for this oven, please throw them out.

Thanks.
Dustin

I tried my hand at reflector cooking when I was tired of carrying around disposable bbq's and just before portable gas bbq's dropped within my price range. It didn't work out very well because instead of simply trying to build my own reflector, I purchased one from edmund scientific...a gorgeous unit but totally wrong for camp cooking. Anyway, it was such a good reflector that when I'd put a hotdog on a stick and slide it through the hole, the dog would either just burst into flames or simply explode. I tried boiling water and it heated up the pan so hot it deformed. That was the extent of my trials.
I'll be very interested in reading of your reflector exploits and hopefully they'll be much more successful than my own.

Traded in all my project vehicles for my 2009 Xterra, not an ounce of buyers remorse.
