Paul told me about this instant coffee too.  While I was skeptical, I decided to give it a try at home...  I never ever thought I'd say this about an instant coffee, but  he's right, it's amazingly good, and strong!

Definately worth a try.

I always have some of the instant Medaglia d'Oro in the cupboard. It's great for making deserts etc. Never tried drinking it. Maybe I will. Thanks.

BTW the $tarbucks single-serve plunge pods are now available at Costco. At $80 a pound!

$80/ lb?

Wow! I thought I was spending too much at Stumptown. Their stuff is around $16/lb.

Yeah, I like the Via stuff too.

I do put in creamer.

I've been using the single cup drip cone recently though.

Todd, I tried the Via. If you like Starbucks coffee, you will like Via. The taste is almost exactly the same as the store brewed coffee.

That being said, there's no chance that I'd bring it on the trail. I would use it for backpacking when I'm trying to shave weight.

I didn't have any coffee ground up for it during my trips last month, but I have a GSI espresso maker that works really well.   Mine's an aluminum "1-shot" affair that I bought to take backpacking.  I liked it so much, I use it regularly in the house when our La Pavoni isn't available ... like now!

It's not as good as french press, but if space is limited, the thing is nearly indestructable and makes a pretty durn good cuppa joe.  grind the beans on "turkish" and give the pod a slight tamp.    I usually drink mine black, but a packet of sugar and a packet of non-dairy creamer yields decent results.

the top pic is the small one I have  - the bottom is a "4-cup" that makes a lot more in one brew session.   You can get them from REI.
