I would love to know what is the easiest to use, compatable with software, never loses contact, gives me on the fly GPS coodinates, finds route with on the fly to coordinates with in reason GPS system.
I am so lost and want so bad a simple system that tells me where I am, and where to go...Is it that hard??? |

LOL, Sadly, I think had you asked for world peace, ending hunger, a good economy, AND beef jerky that doesn't get stuck in your teeth, - you'd have a better chance of actually getting your wish. :)
Maybe someone here has an idea of something that can at least hit 4 of 6 of those items. It seems that a gps that does a couple of things well, stinks at some of the others...
Some of the newer touch screen models will probably be easier to use, but they rarely seem to have the tools we need for off road stuff. |

Well at least I am not the only one, seems confusing that they make software to get you anywhere in a city, but have found a map works great for me...when I need to know where I am at in the middle of no where and how to get some where is what this should be doing..... |

| Man I don't feel so alone now. I'm looking at the Garmin Nuvi 500 at the moment. It looks like it does almost everything I want it to plus a bunch of stuff I don't need. I want something that has offroad roads and trails in it. I want to punch in numbers and have it take me there or at least point me in the right direction. I want something like back track system to get me back out if need be. I want a big screen that is easy to use and that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. So far I think the 500 will sort of do that. Anyone have one that can tell me if I'm right or close to right or way off or the 500 is a piece of crud don't buy it? Thanks Rupe |

David, I know its a little apples to oranges, but I have the Garmin Nuvi 250 and think it is a POS. Whenever I am anywhere near I5 in downtown Seattle, it just plain freaks out. Even if I'm on 99 north of Seattle with a completely unobstructed view of the sky, it still goes nuts. It just keeps saying "recalculating" over and over. It just can't accept the fact that it is on the highway itself and thinks its on one of the side roads.
I used to have a tiny little Garmin until some scumbag stole it out of my car. That GPS was much more accurate, which is interesting considering the fact that it was smaller and older. The only time the older model ever had an issue was driving in the downtown area of Seattle around 5th and Madison since the tall buildings obstructed the sky. |

| Mike The only GPS I have had was one of the first Garmin that came out (handheld), it just sucked from the minute I turned it on. I tried it a few times out in the woods and it would never work right. I don't need that again, what a waste of money that one was. I'm sure hoping the 500 is a good one. So far the reports I've read are great other then the succion cup comes off the windshield sometimes. Everyone else seems to like it but then they aren't taking it offroad into the "Where in the world are we" areas. I just don't want to put out that much cash for something that isn't going to do most of the things I want it to. rupe |

I also have a NUVI, the 200. It was cheap and for what it cost (on sale), about what it would cost to upgrade my Garmin 360CSX to include city streets, it is worth it. I am not so dependent on the technology that the little crap things it does bother me all that much. It sometimes takes awhile to find the satellites and it does confuse things, like Mike mentioned, and it also gives turn directions a bit late sometimes. I am 'recalculating' as well. But it does talk, just I could make it talk in different voices, like Faith Hill. We call it...'She who must be obeyed'. Morris |

| Yes! Mrs. Rupe got me a Nuvi 500 for Christmas. So far I have just used it around the area, but I really like it so far. I like the fact that it has TOPO already in it. It will take me awhile to learn how to use everything in it, being that I have never played with a GPS before. But I think it is going to beable to do what I want and plus it's waterproof so I don't have to be so carefull with it. rupe |
