Since I now have a BajaRack to mount my tent to I no longer need the Thule setup I had purchased (prematurely).  I have the Thule Super High feet, 58" Load Bars and 4 locks with keys.  This will fit over the back part of a DII or D1.  It is predrilled for the Mombasa tent if you happen to have one, otherwise you gain or lose nothing.

This setup is literally brand spanking new, it's put together and maybe spent two weeks on my truck.  It retails for $325 for everything.

Lower Price $200

I still have all this, moved it with me. I'm going to throw it on eBay later this week if I don't get some movement on it.

Was that the Expedition tent on top of it? I was looking to do the same thing. Two crossbars felt sufficient for the weight of the tent and two adults? I was thinking I would need three, base on Thule's load rating but wasn't sure.

Kristina,

If you have concerns I'd follow Thule's recommendation.

I've also used two. I'm a big guy and in my experience anyway, I never had any problems. I've had myself, wife, and son up there with no issues at all. Larry and I both removed the cross braces that come on the tent and mounted the tent directly to the Thule bars. This allows the tent to sit another 1.5" lower and allows it to open over the back of the truck. The setup worked really well, but if you have concerns I'd follow Thule and Mombasa's recommendations.

Thank you, Craig. I saw your setup, as well. It's exactly what I was planning on doing with my DI, I just wasn't sure on the 2 or 3 Thule bars. I really feel like two will be enough, considering that the weight will be evenly distributed.

I see that you've ditched your setup already and went with the Oasis tent. How do you like it? It looks like a fun and easy tent, and was one of my first choices. My only problem with it is that I'm a side/tummy sleeper and I didn't think that would work in the Oasis.

I slept in one a couple of years ago, but haven't slept in it since I bought the new one. I'm a side/tummy sleeper too, and I slept great the one time I used it.

Keep in mind Thule's lawyers made their load rating a dynamic one rather than one based on the objective strength of the roof itself.

Yep Andy,  My understanding is that the load recomendations are based on the load at highway speeds.  Much different dynamic than the load when the vehicle is stationary.
