I don't know about your application and the necessary upgrades in circuits, but here is a link to the alternator's I have been using for over a decade on my trucks. Granted all of mine have been on full size trucks but all have been easy bolt on installs and of the three I've had I have never had a failure or issue with the Mean Green's. Maybe they have one that will work for you! I am putting one on the Tacoma with an isolated dual battery set-up. I am also going to nominally "water-resist" the engine for fording.

I cannot commont on the "water resistance" of the Mean Greens as I did live in the desert, but I have never had a water issue with any of them. Keep in mind I had one on my flatbed Dodge on the Colockum pass trip. It was just fine after going through the water and splashing Kevin at 60mph!

Scott, I looked into the Mean-Greens also, and the Power Masters. I'd still have to upgrade the lines no matter what. The way I went, it cost me only about $350 total (including battery, fuse, cables, etc) using the napa alternator.
Besides, Lynnwood Auto Electric would build me basically a mean green or PowerMaster for 180.00, and buuld it with a Toyota pig tail. That's what the 4Runner will get.

Yeah I see that. Sorry, I didn't see your other threads before I posted that. I didn't realize you had already done it. Sounds like it worked to perfection. Your new winch bumper set-up looks great as well!

Thanks for posting this Grant! I have been researching this and intend to do this to my Tacoma. The only issue I found some people having is a soft brake peddle once completed. I think if the system is bleed properly it should be alright.

Very useful and well detailed upgrade post. . . even if I have a Jeep.

Did you always have manual locking hubs or did you convert them?

Mike, I converted it, bought the spindles and hubs from a taco that was getting a solid axle, it had the Downey conversion. Keeping my eyes out for a set of factory hubs to replace the warns.

Sweet upgrade, Grant. Now you'll need a 5 point harness to stay in the vehicle!
What about the stock master cylinder?

Jay. the upgrade is to address the rotor size more than the caliper size, in order reduce rotor overheating and warpage. The caliper pistons themselves I'd bet are nearly identical, so I am not concerned about the master cylinder being out of proportion.

It would have been a spectacular flop, considering how much lose firewood I had inside with me...It probably was not nearly as sketchy as I thought... pretty hard to tell when all you see is sky infront of you and dark hillside on the downhill side

Garrett- I gotta sort out a way to do it electronically, so I can correlate lat/long to images and notes... I'm sure there's something out there. This trip was all old school for me, though, no gps, just maps and odometer
